This Wordsearch puzzle features names of popular Icelandic authors whose works are available in English, either originally written or translated. But here’s a twist! Of the clues listed below the Wordsearch grid, only four names belong to real Icelandic writers—two are impostors that cannot be found in the puzzle! Can you weed out the fakes and solve the puzzle?

*As per our Vegout Voyage tradition, all Icelandic-specific letters and diacritical marks are anglicized.

Audio recording 1 is paired with music description C. You are listening to a short clip of Sami singer, Mari Boine, performing the song Gula Gula in the style of joik. You can find the full song here. Most Sami people inhabit the northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and the Kola Peninsula in Russia. Singer Mari Boine is from Norway.

Audio recording 2 is paired with music description A. Peyote music is primarily performed during church service. In fact, the music got its name from the fact that the music is used in a ceremonial aspect during the sacramental taking of peyote (a type of cactus.) Peyote music is practiced by people of various Native American indigenous groups, including Sioux, Navajo, and more. Did you—especially readers living in North America—get it right?

Audio recording 3 is paired with music description B. Rimur is the long, narrative, rhymed Icelandic epic poem. As you can probably tell from the audio clip, Rimur is often performed with music accompaniment, such as marimba. You are listening to a collaboration between the Icelandic band, Sigur Rós, and the Icelandic musician, Steindor Andersen, who sadly passed away just a few months ago in April, 2025. The full performance can be found here.

First off, a huge thank you to all the Voyagers who joined the Armchair Iceland giveaway last month! We’re inching close to 50 Amazon reviews as of now, and proudly holding an 4.8 average rating. I’m so grateful for you! 💚💚

To be honest, since the new book release, life has been a stressful mix of some ups and lots of downs. Due to Armchair Iceland's puzzle game format, it sadly doesn’t qualify for many of the usual marketing promos and distribution channels. It is especially frustrating that we now live in a world where it’s nearly impossible to talk to a real human to understand your case. Adding in the uncertainties around my merch supplies related to new tariff policies, and it sometimes feels like the higher power is warning me against venturing deeper into self employment.

While I am a bit lost, pre-planned events have been keeping me moving—hopefully forward. Due to the multitudes of limitations coming from the book publishing industry, I am branching out into the e-commerce communities vibrant with gifts & games creators. I'm really excited to report that I've gotten to talk to many experienced and friendly small business owner, podcast hosts, and puzzle designers. In fact, this month’s Mini Voyage puzzle is created by a new app I'm trying out: The Instant Puzzle Generator, built by veteran puzzle book self-publisher Niranjan Pradha. It serves as my private reminder to celebrate how remarkably more mature the indie publishing world has become. Innovations that streamline the e-commerce pipeline are thriving, and there are abundant opportunities for collaborations cross-genre and cross-industry.

Life is full of unknowns, but I’m grateful to have your company on this somewhat involuntary thrill ride. However my journey ends, each and every one of you is indication that, somehow, somewhere, perhaps I did something right. Thank you.

☀️ Think you got what it takes to crack the new Mini Voyage? ⛰️ I thought it'd be fun to play a physical-activity-themed game seeing that many people are out and about around the holiday break (and yes, I am now realizing January might be a tad too late, mea culpa 🫠) Based on the clues, match each of the four people to one activity that suits them best.
